Update A Wicker Bench With Paint and Rope

If you’ve been with me for a long time, you may remember a super old post with terrible photos from my earliest blogging days. I painted the top of an old wicker bench.

It looked like this before:

Then, I painted the top green:

But, I honestly didn’t love it. It’s been in our bedroom lately and I’ve been updating some things in there so I decided to give the bench yet another little makeover. So, I pulled out my BFF…white paint. And gave it a few glossy coats:

Ahhh….SO much better. But, I decided to kick it up a notch. I had some decorative rope trim and decided to incorporate it somehow.

I kept the Aqua, but spray painted the other rope gold. Since the top wasn’t in the best shape, I was able to weave some of the rope through the spaces in the wicker.

I quickly learned that the rope will unravel as soon as you cut it, so I started putting tape on the spots I needed to cut before snipping. This kept it nice and neat.

I just kept adding rope until I ran out, so this is what I ended up with:

It’s kinda cool…and kinda random. I think I may add more, but for now this is how it stands

Reid came home and was surprised at the update and said he really liked it.

I think it would be fun to do this with yarn or more colorful rope for a more eclectic feel.

There you have it! A super quick update using stuff I already had on hand…which is usually how my DIY projects go.
