If you are wondering how to make a headband for a baby girl, look no further because this is the world’s easiest tutorial! Very little sewing is required and the results are just adorable. I love whipping up these easy heabands in a jiffy when I’m taking a meal to a family with a new baby girl. They are always a hit and since very little time is involved, it’s not a big deal if baby ends up wearing it just once! Keep reading to find out how to make a headband for yourself (meaning, a baby!) Once you master this easy method, move on to something a tiny bit more involved but even cuter!
I finally got around to making one for my little Pearl even though I’ve made lots for other babies.
All you will need is some elastic-(I found this thin, lacy elastic and Joann’s and it’s just perfect for a baby!), some felt, scissors, buttons and a needle and thread.
First, begin by cutting some circles for the flowers. I like to layer a few colors for this.
Take the larger circles and begin cutting them into flowers. I do this by folding the circle in half and taking two small notches out of each side…
Fold in half, on a diagonal, again and cut the wedges again.
Now fold in half and do it one more time…
They will look more like snowflakes, so just take your scissors and round out the flower petals.
Choose a few buttons…I like to do contrasting colors.
Sew the buttons on with a needle and thread, through both layers of felt.
Now, take your elastic and measure it around the baby’s head (or use another headband to estimate how long it needs to be) and sew together. You can do this by hand or use the sewing machine.
Attach the flowers on top of the seam, so it’s hidden. You can either sew them on or hot glue them. I think stitching them on lasts longer as the glue might come off later, but really, how long is a baby going to wear this headband? So, it’s probably fine either way!
And you are done! Easiest handmade baby gift ever! Now, go find a sweet baby girl to stick it on!
Now that you know how to make a headband, move on to some other methods that are just SO adorable!
