March is almost here. Can you believe it? It’s especially hard to believe when it’s consistently about 12 degrees outside around these parts. But, I’m ready for spring so I’m just moving forward on to March. I made a St. Patty’s day green shirt for Jane using RIT dye. The DIY ombre effect turned out super cute and I couldn’t believe how easy it was!
First, I mixed up a box of RIT dye in Kelly Green with warm water and 1 cup of salt in a large bowl. This obviously would work with any color.
Next, I rigged up a hanging system to get the ombre effect. Hang your shirt somewhere where just the bottom will touch the bowl. I left it this way for about 5 minutes.
Then, I carefully slipped a book under the bowl to raise it up. I left it this way for about 5 more minutes.
I just kept adding books one by one until the shirt was about 3/4 the way covered in the dye.
Rinse it out in cold water and then wash. I think the DIY ombre shirt turned out so cute! This would be fun to do with anything – dishtowels, pillow covers, scarves, etc!
Jane approves! Now I kinda want to make one for myself with one of my white shirts that has a stain on it.
