Cacti are all the rage right now…have you noticed? Summer is in full swing and I’m always looking for fun crafts for my girls’ to do, so I came up with these sweet little toothpick cacti that they can make themselves. And the best thing is you don’t have to worry about them dying on you (yes I kill all plants including cacti) or poking you!
This toothpick cactus craft is not only easy for kids of all ages, but it makes a cute home decor piece to brighten up your space. All you need are a few supplies to make your own bright and cheerful toothpick cactus.
Toothpick Cactus Craft
Sometimes I hesitate to put a lot of time and effort into kids crafts because it seems like they will get thrown away immediately. With four kids at home, the crafts seem to take over and clutter our entire space. So, when we are crafting, I like to think of crafts that will not only be fun for kids, but will look cute enough to sit out as part of our decor. These little toothpick cacti do just that! They are so cute and cheerful yet fun for the kids to make.
We made our toothpick cactus craft in fun colors, but you could make yours with more realistic cactus colors too. Either way, this cactus craft is sure to be a homerun with both kids and adults alike!
Materials Needed To Make A Toothpick Cactus Craft

Mini Terra Cotta Pots

Mod Podge
Toothpicks
Tissue Paper
Foam Brush
Instructions For Toothpick Cactus Craft
Step One: Begin by putting a layer of Mod Podge on your Styrofoam ball with a foam brush.
Place some tissue paper on the ball and add more Mod Podge on top. Once it’s dry, you can add more layers of tissue paper and Mod Podge if desired.
Step Two: Paint your toothpicks. To make painting easier, you can stick the toothpicks in an extra Styrofoam ball while applying paint.
When the paint is dry, cut or break the toothpicks in half
Step Three: Stick your toothpicks in the dried Styrofoam ball.
Step Four: If desired, paint the terra cotta pots. When they are dry, place the toothpick cacti in the pots and enjoy!
I hope you will make some of these friendly little cacti whether you have kids or not!
Aren’t they the cutest? They would look adorable on a little floating shelves in your child’s room, or sitting on their toy shelf. These would even be fun teacher gifts for back to school. I can’t believe I’m already talking about back to school!!
