Modern Toddler Room Reveal

When I set out to give my 3 year son’s room a makeover, I had a few goals in mind. First, I wanted to create a space that he could grow into and enjoy for years to come. I didn’t want to make the mistake of making the room too juvenile and need to redo it in a year or so! Secondly, I wanted to use as many things that I already had on hand as possible and make them work in his space. And lastly, I needed to give his room a facelift while spending as little money as possible. It was a challenge, but I love how it turned out.

This modern toddler room reveal is one that anyone can get inspired from and try some of these ideas in your own space. Or, just copy everything I did, I don’t care! This post will have all of the sources and project links for you so that you will know exactly how to achieve the same look in your own space.

Toddler Bedroom Before and After

Here is what my son’s nursery looked like before the makeover:

We had done a vintage camping themed nursery when he was born and I loved it for so long. I spent most of my pregnancy gathering vintage camping finds from thrift stores and garage sales.

I decided that I wanted to use a lot of the same things for his new room since I had spent so much time and energy acquiring them. I think the new space looks more grown up even though a lot of the same elements are there. It still has that modern/vintage vibe that I was going for!

DIY Projects For Toddler Room Reveal

There were a lot of DIY projects that went into this bedroom reveal. The good news is that they were all very easy to do. Even if you don’t have many DIY skills, you can still accomplish the DIY projects that we tackled for this space.

The first step was painting a black accent wall.

I have a full post detailing how to paint the perfect black accent wall.

I have the tendency to paint everything white, so I decided to step out of my comfort zone and go bold with a black wall. The room has a lot of light, so I knew that it would work in this space.

Secondly, we made a shelf for the accent wall.

I knew I wanted to display all of my vintage finds for his room, but not necessarily within arms reach. So we decided to make a wall to wall shelf that was pretty high up on the wall.

Next, I gave the dresser a makeover.

I had found a garage sale dresser years ago that originally was in my daughter’s room. Then, I painted it gray for the nursery. I decided to give another facelift for the big boy room. I show you how to renovate an old dresser in just a few easy steps!

Another project that I did for this room that I didn’t really blog about, was giving a mid century thrift store bed a makeover. I found this little bed at the thrift store for only $40 and painted it green. I love it’s simple and clean lines.
