I don’t know about you, but for me, making sugar cookies with my kids is one of those tasks that seems very daunting. It’s so fun for them, but a whole lot of work for mama. I love creating memories with them though and want my girls to have that experience of decorating cookies for the holidays. I came up with these snowflake cookies to solve my messy sugar cookie woes! The dough is store bought (shh…don’t tell!) and there are no cookie cutters or smearing frosting involved. Just cut, dip and assemble! Plus, they are pretty darn cute!
These may not be the most professional cookies you’ve ever seen, but they are fun and easy to make not only for Christmas but for all of winter! If you are in the mood to dress up a cake with snowflakes, try making some hot glue snowflake cake toppers. So easy and gorgeous! But for these little guys, here’s what you will need:
Snowflake Cookies
- Sugar Cookie Dough
- Butter
- Powdered Sugar
- Sprinkles
- Milk
- Vanilla
- Pizza Cutter
- Rolling pin
Roll out the dough to be about 1/4 – 1/2 inch thick and bake according to the package directions. You may need to bake it a tad longer since it’s such a big piece of dough.
Using a pizza cutter, cut the cookie into 1/2 inch strips. The edges may be a little too crunchy, but that can just be your treat for doing all this hard work! I found the center areas of the cookie to be perfect for assembling the snowflakes.
Whip up some buttercream icing. This is a good recipe. Stick the cookie strips in the freezer for about 10 minutes or so to make them really firm for dipping. Dip each end of the cookie strips in the icing or spread it on with a knife.
Set them on a piece of waxed or parchment paper and add sprinkles!
Next, stick them in the freezer for about 10 minutes or so to allow the frosting to set up. (the fridge works too, I’m just impatient!)
While the cookies are chilling, melt some white chocolate chips in the microwave.
Now it’s time to assemble. Place a dab of white chocolate in the center of the strip.
Add another strip and top with another dab of white chocolate.
Add one more strip!
So easy! Everyone will love these cute little snowflake cookies.
For a non-edible snowflake craft, whip up some q-tip snowflakes with the kids! They are just adorable.
