I love looking at all the creative cake decorations on Pinterest. I usually don’t have many reasons or opportunities to make and decorate cakes, but I was in the mood to come up with something perfect for a winter occasion! I saw these hot glue snowflakes and thought they were so cool. Then I had a lightbulb moment to make a bunch, attach them to skewers and put them in a cake. How pretty! This would be fun for a winter birthday or shower, or just because you feel like it!
For this project, you will need:
- Wooden skewers
- Hot Glue Gun
- Cooking Spray
- Clear Surface
After some trial and error, I learned that this works best if you spray down a clear surface with a generous amount of cooking spray. I used a clear pyrex dish. On the underside of the dish, I taped on some snowflake templates. Then, I just hot glued the snowflakes directly onto the clear, sprayed dish. After you have made your snowflake, attach a skewer with a generous amount of hot glue to make sure it’s secure.
Make them in all different shapes, sizes and heights. They aren’t perfect on their own, but look so pretty all together on a cake.
Insert the skewers into the center of your cake and you are finished! Take a store bought white cake and make it fancy!
Go make one today and beat those winter blues!
