I’m back with an update for the One Room Challenge, week 2. I made a lot of progress in week 1 and I’m excited to share what I’ve done so far for my master bedroom makeover. I shared my progress on Instagram, so be sure to follow along there with real time updates. I also posted 2 DIY tutorials which can be seen in my master bedroom makeover so far. I showed you how I made a DIY Leather Pillow and my DIY Side Table. Both projects are easy to do but make a big statement! So, here is how the room is looking so far:
I am in love with the wall color. It reads a little more blue in photos than it is in real life. I chose “Salamander” by Benjamin Moore. It’s slightly more green in real life and it changes based on the time of day which I love. The rest of the walls are “Simply White” by Benjamin Moore which is a great bright white without being too harsh. The rug is a little more traditional than what I typically go for, but since it’s so neutral I think it will be fine for the space.
I’m so happy that I ended up painting the side tables white. As I demonstrated in my DIY Side Table Makeover post, I added a faux drawer to the fronts of these Craigslist tables and gave them a fresh coat of cream paint.
I still need to decide on pillows for the bed. The long pillow is probably going to go back to the store, it still has the tag on it. I’m not sure it really goes with the color scheme.
We also installed these wall sconces which I love. It frees up so much space on the bedside tables since we don’t have to have lamps sitting on them now. The sconces just elevate the space a little bit and I can’t believe how affordable they were!.
This corner of the room is still pretty bare, but I absolutely love the chair that I found at the thrift store for $40! It’s in brand new condition and is super comfortable. It’s perfect for this little corner. I added my DIY leather pillow that I made out of a leather jacket last week. I still need to decide on what else I will do with this wall! I’m thinking of replacing the knobs on the dresser or maybe painting them black. The dresser is vintage and super sturdy so I definitely want to keep it and just work with what I have.
The next thing I need to tackle are curtains and artwork for above the bed. I have a fun DIY project in mind for some super inexpensive curtains, but I’m still brainstorming about the artwork. I already made something and it was a fail. I just don’t think it goes with the rest of the space. If you remember my mood board…
I had the idea of making some DIY black and white art like the one in my mood board but after I made it and hung it up, I just wasn’t feeling it. It was too harsh and modern for the rest of the space. Although it was a fun project and I may do it for another room in the future!
Here are the other items I’m going to try for the bedroom:
- Build a bench
- Build some shelves
- Make some DIY art for above the bed
- Make Curtains
- Hang a gallery wall
- DIY pillows for the bed
We will see how much of the list I actually get done!
