Modern Master Bedroom Makeover for Under $500
We made over our bedroom as a part of the One Room Challenge . It’s hard to believe that my first ORC is already over, but it also feels like I’ve been working on this bedroom for forever. I’m so excited with how my bedroom turned out. From the DIY Modern Bench, DIY Color Block Art, Drop Cloth Curtains and Bedside Table Makeover, there were tons of DIY projects involved which resulted in a lot of messes. It feels so nice to have everything cleaned up and the finishing touches added.
It was so much fun to add all of the little decor elements to the room and hang things on the walls. I used things that I already had on hand and bought a few things at the thrift store as well.
Just as a reminder, here was the original room that I was working with:
And here was my Mood Board:
And the finished room! I definitely strayed from the original mood board, but there are lots of similarities too!
I hung up my favorite decor piece above the chair in the corner, which is a mid century brass tree that was my Grandma’s. It has been on many different walls in different houses and I’m so happy that it now lives in this little corner of my bedroom. I love how funky it is and it reminds me of her every time I look at it.
I found a shaker pegboard at the thrift store and at the last minute, decided to paint it dark gray to balance out the dark accent wall. I hung some thrifted baskets above and I think it’s perfect for that little blank space!
I just love how the DIY modern bench looks at the end of the bed and I think it’s the perfect addition to the room!
I painted our little bookshelf with dark gray chalk paint on a whim and I think it balances out the dark wall just like the pegboard does on the opposite side of the room.
The mirror was a $40 clearance find at HomeGoods and I’m so happy with it! I searched FB Marketplace for 6 weeks to find a large mirror and this one ended up being cheaper than any of the mirrors I found second hand.
The center pillow is from AtHome and I think it ties everything together perfectly!
The drop cloth curtains are so simple but they soften up the accent wall just the perfect amount.
I can’t wait to get started on my next room makeover and I plan to join in on the ORC in the spring as well!
