We celebrated another birthday this past week. Jane turned 3! We had a simple little celebration with the grandparents at our house. Jane wanted a purple cake and I decided to make it heart shaped after seeing a few heart cake pins on Pinterest. It was as easy as I thought it would be!
First, to make things easy, I just started off with a box cake mix. (from Aldi of course)
But I decided to make it a little tastier by adding in a few things. After adding in the ingredients on the box directions…
I put in a teaspoon of vanilla extract
And 1/2 cup of sour cream
Then I poured it into a square 8X8 pan and a 8″ round pan
After they were cooled, it was ready to assemble!
Unfortunately I was busy getting ready for the little celebration and forgot to take pictures of the assembly process, but here is a not too great picture that I added lines to so that you can see how I did it.
I used a little buttercream frosting to “glue” the cakes together and then frosted. My buttercream frosting is so easy, it’s not even really a recipe. I use a stick of softened butter and add in about 2 cups of powdered sugar, 1 tsp of vanilla and a tiny bit of milk. I keep adding in milk by 1 or 2 tablespoons until it’s the consistency that I like.
Janie loved her purple cake!
It took a few tries, but she finally blew out that candle!
Happy birthday to my crazy and spunky 3 year old!
