I’ve always loved the look of wall flowers in a little girl’s room. When my daughter pinned some wall flowers for inspiration for her new tween room, I decided to take a stab at it. Since she loves to read, we decided to make a wall of flowers using book pages. It was so fun to figure out how to make wall flowers out of book pages and I hope that you are inspired to try it yourself.
How do you make wall flowers out of book pages? Spray your book pages with stiffener spray. Fold the book page in half and cut out a petal shape. Cut slits in the bottoms of each petal. Overlap the slits and glue them together. Cut out a circle. Then, begin glueing the largest petals around the circle. Keep layering more petals, going from largest on the outside to smallest near the center. Add the center of the flower to the middle. Use a clear thumbtack to attach the book page flower to the wall.
How To Make Wall Flowers Out Of Book Pages
This was a fun diy wall art project to do because it’s not permanent. We used thumbtacks to attach the flowers to the wall so that we can easily take them down if we want to move them or just get tired of them. In fact, I used thumbtacks for a lot of the DIY projects in this tween girl room, like the pool noodle letter and the hula hoop chalkboard. I love the idea of quickly being able to take something down if we want to rearrange or redecorate.
I love this wall flower decor from little bits of home, but I wanted to try to make some with book pages. It’s also incredibly inexpensive to adorn an entire wall with book page flowers. I picked up a few books at the dollar store and I already had the rest of the supplies on hand. We decided to add some plain white flowers too and I love how it turned out. Curl each petal with a pencil.
What Kind Of Books Should You Use For Wall Flowers?
You can use pretty much any kind of book for book page wall flowers. I used a large novel that had a lot of pages and I also used a word search book because it was large (about the size of a coloring book). If you can find a book with thick pages, that’s even better!
Like I mentioned earlier, I grabbed a few books at Dollar Tree for my book page wall flowers. The key is that you want to find books that are fairly large. Here are just a few places that you can find inexpensive books for book page wall flowers:

How To Stiffen Book Pages For DIY Projects
In order to make your DIY project hold up and be nice and sturdy, you will probably want to stiffen your book pages. Book pages tend to be thin and flimsy, making them less desirable to work with than craft paper. In order to stiffen them, you will need to treat them with a store bought stiffener or use a homemade one. For this project, I used a store bought stiffener. I just layed out the pages and sprayed them. Then, I allowed the pages to dry and I flipped them over and repeated the process.
Materials Needed To Make Wall Flowers Out Of Book Pages
Here’s what you will need:
- Books
- Stiffener Spray
- Clear Thumbtacks
- Scissors
- Pencil
- Hot Glue Gun
Instructions For How To Make Wall Flowers Out Of Book Pages
1. Spray your book pages with stiffener spray
Lay your pages out and spray them with a coat of stiffener spray. Allow them to dry for a few minutes, then flip them over and do the other side.
2. After the book pages have dried, place them under something heavy to flatten them.
Your book pages will become somewhat wrinkly after spraying them. After they are dry, place them under something heavy like a stack of books to flatten them out.
3. Fold the book page in half and cut out a petal shape.
You can use this first petal shape to trace onto more book pages. You need about 6 petals per layer, so I like to stack up my pages and cut a bunch at one. Repeat this process for different sizes of petals.
4. Cut slits in the bottoms of each petal.
Again, you can stack up a bunch to make this part go faster. Cut about a 1 inch slit in the bottom of the petals.
5. Curl each petal with a pencil.
Wrap the petals around a pencil and roll them up. Then, unroll them to reveal a curl at the tip of the petals.
6. Overlap the slits and glue them together.
Use a hot glue gun and just add a dot, then overlap the slits to glue them together. This will make the petal more three dimensional.
7. Fold a long strip of paper in half, then cut fringe along the edge.
8. Roll up the fringed strip, glueing it together at the bottom. Fluff out the fringe to reveal what will be the centers of the flowers.
9. Cut out a circle. Then, begin glueing the largest petals around the circle.
10. Keep layering more petals, going from largest on the outside to smallest near the center. Add the center of the flower to the middle.
11. Use a clear thumbtack to attach the book page flower to the wall.
Mix it up with adding white or colorful flowers. I love this three dimensional wall decor!
