I love all of the beautiful hand lettering that has become so popular. I especially am in love with the watercolor lettering I’ve seen around blogland and Pinterest. I’m definitely a novice at watercolor and have become pretty rusty since my college watercolor class 10 years ago. But I figured out an easy to way to achieve that watercolor look without the hassle! (doesn’t that sound like an infomercial?)
It’s really simple. Just get yourself some watercolor pencils at the craft or art store. They are very inexpensive and great for kids too!
Write out your phrase. Don’t afraid to make it kind of messy, that just adds to the finished watercolor look. This is also a great way to experiment with a gradient of colors.
Once you are finished with your lettering, just grab a small paint brush and plain water. Paint over the letters and the pencil turns into paint and become fluid.
The more water you use, the more “flowy” your letters become. Or you can just just a little bit of water for a more controlled look.
Let it dry and you are done! See, isn’t that easier than messing with actual watercolors?
