Lately my girls have had a tough time obeying and completing little tasks that I ask them to do without complaining or worse. I’ve tried so many different chart methods to offer positive reinforcement, but always end up stopping or switching to another method for one reason or another. After some thought, I decided to create a job chart situation that will hopefully stick and solve some of the attitude problems going on.
First, I created these charts in Photoshop. They have slightly different “jobs” for the day.
I was pleased with them, but I wanted to come up with a way for these charts NOT to get ruined. Paper seems to get ripped, lost and colored on. Plus, I didn’t want to be printing out new pages every week. That is the type of thing that makes me stop doing something. So, I found some frames I had spray painted white but never ended up getting art in them. The charts fit in there and it looked pretty.
I hung them in the girls room, low enough that they can “read” their chart and help X off the things they have completed.
I just set a dry erase marker on the top of the top frame, conveniently out of their reach so that these charts aren’t used for coloring purposes.
At the end of the week, they each get one penny for each X that is in the chart to go in their piggy banks. For right now, that REALLY excites them and they have their own little stash of money that they can save.
Do you have a job chart system that works well for you?
