I’m thrilled that I can FINALLY reveal the shared girls’ bedroom reveal for Lula and Jane! SO many DIY room decor projects went into this makeover and we are so happy with how it turned out. They love having their own space in the basement and our house instantly feels twice as big now that the basement bedroom is in full use and our upstairs is a little more clutter free. We live in a fairly small home and with almost 4 kids, it can get cramped at times, so making full use of the space we have is a must. The room went from drab to fab with some easy DIY room decor projects and tips that I can’t wait to share! There are so many easy shared bedroom ideas for sisters in this space!
If you want to gain some shared bedroom ideas for sisters, then this space will inspire you. This room was done on a seriously small budget, but it came together with a little bit of creativity and hard work. Anyone can create an inspiring shared bedroom.
*A huge thanks to Sherwin-Williams, Hedge Apple/Plush Rugs and Minted for contributing their beautiful products to make this room reveal possible. As always, all opinions are 100% mine.
Shared Bedroom Ideas For Sisters
So, first lets start from the beginning. Our basement room had just been used to hold my craft supplies and musical instruments and wasn’t really being used to it’s full potential. We knew we wanted to move the girls down there eventually, but we wanted to wait until they were old enough to be on a separate level of the house from us. Here is the sad before photo:
The random white paint is from a few years ago. We used the room to spray all of the doors in our house and it’s the leftover spray from that.
Sorry for the blurry photo! Just another angle of the room.
And here is the very sad bathroom that was not being used at all. The bathroom is directly off the room which is so nice!
And here it is AFTER!!!
After lots of trial and error, we ended up using Sherwin-Williams reserved white for the walls. I wanted to go white for the walls, but not stark white. This is the perfect color with just the slightest tinge of gray. I fully expect to use it in future rooms and homes. We used the Harmony line which is VOC free and goes on so smooth. 2 coats covered it perfectly. We also painted the trim in Sherwin-Williams bright white which offers the perfect slight contrast to the wall color.
I’m in LOVE with this art print from Minted which looks just perfect above the girls cute shelves. You also might recognize their DIY piggy banks sitting on top – the colors match perfectly!
The other side of the room holds the desk area. This was my old desk from when I was a girl that I painted using Sherwin-Williams Refresh. I LOVE the color. I spray painted the handles gold and also spray painted the lamp gold. It was my old desk lamp from college! The weaving under the window is another DIY home decor project. It is my t-shirt weaving that I shared awhile back.
And the RUG! Isn’t it perfect? I couldn’t be happier with the quality and beauty of it. PlushRugs graciously sent it to me for this room reveal, but it’s one that I totally would have bought myself. They also have a new home decor website called Hedge Apple with some beautiful stuff that you should check out!
Three more Minted prints (Peony Bottle, LOVE, Luminous) make the little wall collage above the desk area just perfection. Be sure to check out my post on how I made the DIY silhouettes with plates and a paint pen. Also, the set of drawers that I made over with kids’ artwork sits perfectly next to the desk and holds all of Lula’s American Girl doll clothes.
I just love how cheerful and bright the prints from Minted are and I know that they will be used for a very long time!
I used the paint in Refresh to give an old mirror a facelift and it sits in the perfect spot next to the bathroom door.
Remember the old ugly bathroom before??
All I did was give everything a fresh coat of paint and change out the hardware!
What a difference, right?? I used the same reserved white for the walls and bright white for the vanity and trim. And that shower curtain!! It’s actually fabric that I ordered from Minted and sewed it into a shower curtain. Isn’t it perfect?
It’s so amazing what just a little bit of paint and decor can do. The wood piece above the toilet it something I found at an estate sale for $1 and painted it to match the desk.
I added another print from Minted and I love how the simplicity of the black and white floral print matches with the rest of the colorful decor.
Finally, I can’t forget the bed and bedding! We bought the bunk beds from a family member and they are just perfect. The bedding is from Target’s pillowfort line. I scored 2 sets of sheets, both comforters and throw pillows all for under $100 awhile back when everything was 30% online at Target.
And there you have it! I hope this inspires you to give a sad room in your home a fresh makeover with just a few tweaks and some DIY room decor!
