Lula was asking for a key chain to go on her backpack for school recently. So, I decided to try my hand at using Mod Podge dimensional magic and came up with these glossy monogrammed key chains. I used some leather cord to string them on and I think they turned out pretty cute. I even have one of the DIY key chains on my own key ring. These monogrammed key chains would be a perfect DIY stocking stuffer too.
- Wooden circles (with a hole drilled through the top)
- Craft knife
- Mod Podge Dimensional Magic
- Craft Paper
- Leather Cording
- Classic Mod Podge
First you will need to cut 2 circles to fit your wooden piece. I did 2 contrasting patterns of paper. Cut a letter out of one circle using the craft knife.
Use the regular Mod Podge to layer them on the circle. Brush a layer on the wood first, and then a layer on each circle and sandwich them together. Cover with one more layer of Mod Podge and let it dry.
Once it’s dry, add your dimensional magic and build up a nice layer on the top. I made mine fairly thin, but you could do a thicker layer if you wanted. I forgot to add that you need to make sure the hole in the wooden circle doesn’t close up. I actually stuck a toothpick through mine while the Mod Podge dried.
It takes about 24 hours for it to fully dry and then you are ready to use it!
Have fun dressing up a backpack, key ring or lunch box. You could even string a chain through it and have a really hip and classy necklace!! Just kidding, that would be ridiculous, don’t do that please.
