Thanks to everyone for your patience last week as I was away in Colorado with my family. All I have for you today are some pictures of the fun we had last week! It was so relaxing to be away and have absolutely no internet or phone access. We stayed at my husband’s family cabin up in Buena Vista, CO and the weather was just perfect.
We decided to leave at 3:30am to make the 11 hour journey. Although we were tired, the kids slept the first few hours and it made the trip go by so fast. It was also beautiful to drive through the country while the sun came up.
Pearl did awesome on the trip, she slept a lot of the way there and was happy when she was awake.
We arrived in the afternoon and just had a relaxing evening at the cabin. Our first full day there, we ventured up to St. Elmo, a local ghost town where the Chipmunks are abundant and very friendly. Feeding the chipmunks is the main attraction.
They were aggressive that day. One crawled up Reid’s back while another one simultaneously bit his arm, drawing blood. Yikes! Lula wasn’t scared, although she rather enjoyed kicking the chipmunks away.
We enjoyed walking around and exploring the ghost town.
That afternoon we took a hike up to a waterfall. This was Lula’s first time actually hiking and she did awesome! She wanted to lead the group and set a pretty good pace.
We had fun playing games at the cabin
And I found a vintage “Pearl” sign in downtown Buena Vista. I might make a print of this and hang it in Pearl’s room.
We also went to Salida, a neighboring town that has some quirky stores and restaurants. If you ever go there, you MUST eat at Moonlight pizza. The pizza is amazing and they also make homemade soda. I had vanilla cream soda and it was absolutely delicious.
The next day, we went to Monarch and rode a gondala up to see the continental divide.
The only one freaked out by the ride was me, I’ve always been absolutely terrified of heights. But I tried to keep it together.
We stopped to do a little photoshoot of Jane in this dress I made. A tutorial is coming later this week. Isn’t that fabric amazing? More info on that later!
We also enjoyed plenty of swimming, watching the deer and playing games. We love our summer trips to the cabin!
After a night in Colorado Springs to see family, we made the drive home, leaving early in the morning again. It’s back to normal life again in Kansas City!
We are already planning our next trip to the cabin!
