5 Hacks To Prevent Your Face Mask From Hurting Your Ears
Even if you are sewing handmade masks for yourself and your family, it’s still tricky to get your face mask to fit exactly how you need it. I have come across the problem of my mask either pulling too much on my ears or being too large. The good news is that there are some easy tips and tricks for quickly hacking your handmade mask to help it fit your face.
You shouldn’t need any special materials to try out these hacks and they can be done in a matter of minutes. Whether your mask is too small or too large, one of these DIY methods for helping your mask fit your face properly should work for you.
How To Prevent Your Face Mask From Hurting Your Ears
1. The Headband Method
There are a few methods to help your mask from hurting your ears, but one easy way to do this is to sew buttons on a headband. Here’s what you will need:
- A Fabric Headband
Simply try your headband on and mark where it hits right above your ears. Then, sew a button at that spot on either side of the headband.
Now, put on your mask and instead of putting it around your ears, loop the elastic around the buttons on the headband.
2. How To Make Your Mask Fit Around The Back Of Your Head Instead Of Around Your Ears
If your face mask has loops around the ears and you would prefer for it to fit around the back of your head instead, no problem! This method couldn’t be easier.
Simply tie an extra piece of elastic or string between the two ear loops of your mask.
Now it will fit up around the back of your head, relieving the pressure from your ears.
3. How To Adjust The Ear Loops Of Your Face Mask
If you find that your mask is too large around the ears, this hack only takes seconds.
Simply cut the ear loops in half.
Now, tie them in a knot. Put on your mask and adjust the knot to help the loops fit perfectly around your ears.
4. How To Help A Mask That Is Too Large Fit With A Paperclip
If your mask is entirely too large and you would prefer to for it to fit around the back of your head instead of your ears, simply use a paperclip!
Loop the ear loops through a paperclip to attach them together around the back of your head.
It might not look pretty, but it works in a pinch!
5. How To Help Your Face Mask Fit Over Your Nose.
If your mask isn’t fitting snugly over your nose, try this trick. You will need to sew a little bit, but even if you have minimal sewing experience, this trick is easy to do.
Here’s what you will need:
- Pipe Cleaner
- Face Mask
Cut your pipe cleaner to be about 2-3 inches in length so that it will fit over the top portion of the mask that goes over your nose.
Make a knot at the end of your thread and sew the pipe cleaner on, looping it around the pipe cleaner as you go. Make sure to only sew through the lining layer of your mask so that the stitches don’t show from the front.
Once the pipe cleaner is in place, you can bend and adjust it to fit.
I hope one of these hacks will help your handmade face mask fit your face better for a more enjoyable mask wearing experience!
