Progress was much slower for week 3 of my One Room Challenge room. But I did manage to make a super easy DIY modern bench! This bench took about 30 minutes to put together and cost less than $40. I love the simple and modern danish look of this bench in our bedroom. Anyone can make a DIY bench with just a few easy steps!
DIY Modern Bench Tutorial
Here is what you will need to make a DIY modern bench:
- Mid Century Legs
- Leg Kit
- Paint Or Stain
- 2X8X10 Douglas Fir Board
I found these great Mid Century legs on Amazon that were such a great price and so easy to put together. You can choose to have your legs straight or angled. I wanted mine angled, so I got the appropriate metal leg kit.
We cut and sanded our board the length that we wanted. Since it is going at the end of the bed, I wanted it to be pretty long, but this tutorial would work for a short bench too.
Next, we attached the metal leg pieces and the screwed the legs in place.
The legs are slightly different in tone than the wood and I didn’t think I could stain the wood to match. Although I liked the all wood look for the bench, the two different tones bothered me so I ended up painting the top.
I used the same leftover paint that I used for the Bedside Table Makeover and I love how it turned out! I think the white top blends much better with the bed and the rest of the room.
I cannot believe how inexpensive and easy this bench was. I may have to make another one for our living room! You could also make two of these to go with a dining room table or in an entryway, or even upholster the top for a more cushy look.
