We have done some rearranging on our bedroom and have decided to do a mini-closet makeover. For the past few years, my closet has stored my sewing machine and craft supplies.
And there were curtains hanging in front of it. It wasn’t pretty and honestly always became a giant mess. Now that we have some space freed up in our basement, the craft stuff is living down there. I cleared everything out and then it looked a little like this:
We decided to totally get rid of the curtains and make the closet an open space. We moved the dresser in there and it’s going to be my little “nook” storing my jewelry, dresser and other things. I knew that I wanted to try a stencil on the walls just to make it a little more unexpected. Royal Design Studios was kind enough to send me a wall stencil. I decided on this honeycomb stencil.
After painting the wall a robin’s egg blue (leftover paint from the girls’ room), I then painted in the stencil with white. (My process photos are missing, sorry!) and now it looks like this!
Isn’t it lovely? I love the subtlety of the stencil, but it’s still fun and unexpected.
The corners were a bit tricky in that small space, so I ended up painting a stripe around and I think it makes it look a little like wide trim. Fancy! I also used Royal Design Studio’s foam roller which made the process even easier.
I put a coat of gold spray paint on this thrift store mirror (again, where are my “before” photos???) and it makes everything look feminine and pretty.
Now, for future plans, I want to paint the upper area and add some pretty storage boxes or baskets.
But the next big project is painting my dresser. I’ve thought out some color choices and will show them to you all through the power of Photoshop.
My first thought was a peacock blue
But that might be too many blue/aqua tones going on. I’ve also considered gray
Here is gray with gold hardware:
Or maybe an emerald green:
Classic white:
OR, just to mix things up, I tried it in Pantone’s color of the year, Radiant Orchid:
I surprisingly really like this option! It’s super feminine, so I’m not sure if Reid will go for it.
So, what do you think? Any colors I haven’t thought of? I feel like I have tons of yellow in my home, so I didn’t do a yellow option but that might also be fun. Have you tried a wall stencil? I may attempt a bigger area next time!
