Sunburst Mirror....Finally Done!

Ever Since I saw this tutorial on Isabella and Max  I knew I wanted to make a sunburst mirror.  Actually, for a long time I had been looking into buying one but always came up discouraged at the outrageous prices.  So, when I found such an easy and thrifty tutorial, I was excited!!

My next assignment was to find the perfect round mirror to transform.  I didn't want to spend more than $20 and it had to be a mirror with a flat wooden rim that the wooden rods could be hot glued to.

It took me many months of looking around Target, online, thrift stores and other random places before I found a clearance mirror at Target for less than $20!!

Sadly, I can't find the picture of the mirror. But, it was originally lime green. I followed the tutorial exactly but instead of bamboo sticks, I used small wooden dowel rods found at the craft store.

Here is the mirror prior to spray painting:

And here it is after!

It found a spot above our bed.

It did turn out much larger than I was expecting.  I guess my mirror was bigger than the one on the tutorial.  But, I do like it.

I like how the white is very subtle on the gray walls.

Since it's such a "statement" piece, I think the subtlety in color works.

Remember that light fixture?

The round mirror echos the round light fixture and circles in the shams

Which I'm now realizing I never posted the finished shams on the blog. So, here they are!

I'm working on a couple of accent pillows now.

Has anyone else attempted a sunburst mirror?

Closet Solutions

I hope everyone had a happy holiday weekend! We spent lots of time playing outside in the humid and sticky weather.

Lula really enjoyed watching everyone shoot of fireworks this year.  She also got the hang of those little snaps that you throw on the ground.  It took her a few tries.

Janie also had fun on her first fourth! I can't believe she'll be 1 in less than a month!

Celebrating the 4th is so much fun at my parents house since they have a little bit of land and it's legal to shoot of fireworks. Sweet!

And a special thank you should go out to Lula's cousin Vivi for another adorable hand-me-down dress!

I also found time to work on a little project this weekend.  Remember my closet curtain failure?

Well, after being frustrated for the 1000th time that I have nowhere to sew or work on craft projects, I decided to do something about it.  Our room is always full of sewing stuff because I have nowhere to put it.    I decided I could store a lot of my clothes, and put the rest of them in Reid's closet.

So, I cleared my closet out and it looked like this:

Then, I found a can of off-white paint that we had bought by mistake.  I also just was given a skinny table that I didn't have a place for...but it's perfect for my sewing machine!

So, now it looks like this:

I still have more organizing to do and also add a few things to make it cute.  I also will still add curtains that I can just pull back when I'm ready to sew. And, the other closet doesn't seem cramped at all with both sets of clothing in there! I'm actually kind of annoyed at myself for not thinking of this solution sooner.

Bedroom Shelf/Necklace Hanger

I recently re-located a shelf in our bedroom.  It fits perfectly beside my dresser and mirror.

As I was hanging it, I got an idea to use it to hang my necklaces.  I never have a good place for them and I thought it might look kinda fun as well!

I just inserted 3 cup hooks into the bottom of the shelf and voila!  I may hang 2 more hooks to fill in the gaps.  I couldn't decide, so I thought I'd live with it like this for awhile and see how I like it.

I love free decor solutions!!

$6 Vintage Mirror Makeover

Remember this mirror that I picked up for $6 from an antique store for my bedroom?

I added a coat of primer and a few coats of white paint on top of the gold painted wood detailing....

After the paint had cured for a few days, I lightly sanded away some of the paint to reveal bits of the gold underneath.

I like how it turned out, although I feel like the space above my dresser still needs something else.

New hardware will be coming to the dresser soon, which will help!

And don't you love this vintage sewing box? I keep all my jewelry in it...

It matches my Granny's turquoise jewelry box perfectly.

Has anyone else had mirror painting success?
