If you a regular blog reader, you probably already know about my obsession with the Dollar Store. Dollar Tree to be exact. I have posted my top favorite things to buy there and my top home decor items to snag at the Dollar Tree. Well, I have come up with a cute little craft involving a push night light from….you guessed it! The Dollar Tree! This little dollar store DIY night light can be customized to coordinate with any nursery or kids’ room decor. Mine is girly, but you could easily make a boy-ish one. I love crafts that only cost a few bucks!
You can find these push lights anywhere, but the dollar store has multiple shapes to choose from. I believe there was a circle, star and maybe a few others. So check it out and make a bunch!
For this project, you will need:
- Mod Podge Hard Coat (or you can use an original formula)
- Tissue Paper
- Paint Brush
- Spray Paint
- Sharpie
- Push Light
After you’ve grabbed your push light, you want to cover the entire light portion of it with painter’s tape.
Leave the edges exposed.
Give it a good few coats of spray paint. I chose gold, but you could obviously do whatever color you want!
Next, you are going to start layering on strips of tissue paper with the Mod Podge. I just brushed some on a section, put the tissue paper over it and brushed some more on top.
Add as many layers of tissue paper as you’d like. It will be kind of wrinkly and that’s ok. That is just part of the look. Add one more layer of Mod Podge on top to make sure everything is sealed.
Once it’s fully dry, take a Sharpie and make some small patterns on the light.
And that’s pretty much it! It looks super cute during the day…
But your DIY night light comes to life at night with the tissue paper and patterns you added. So fun!
