Found Object Painting: Great Kids’ Project!
I had a large canvas that I had purchased a few weeks ago with a project in mind. Well, I tried 3 different paintings on the canvas and they all turned out embarrassingly horrible! So, I painted over everything in white and decided to let my girls do something instead. I used to do a found object painting project with my students when I was an elementary art teacher, so I decided having the girls make one on a larger scale might be pretty cool. And I love how it turned out!
The first thing we did, was gather up objects around the house. The girls loved finding thing of different sizes, shapes and textures. Keep in mind these will get paint on them, so don’t use anything too precious!!
I decided that just using one color would work best. If you use lots of different colors, it tends to just end up brown. So, I mixed up a dark aqua.
Having such a large canvas allowed them to use much larger objects than I’ve ever done before like big tupperware containers.
After working for awhile I decided it looked done. If I had let them keep going, I think things would have started to look too messy, so I got out some scrap paper and let them continue stamping and took the canvas downstairs to dry.
I think it turned out so cool and looks good enough to actually hang on the wall! My husband came home and saw it on the wall and thought it was a modern art piece before I told him the girls made it!
