Bacon Toffee Recipe

When you think of leaving treats for Santa, a bacon toffee recipe probably doesn’t come to mind. In fact, you probably didn’t even know such a thing existed. Well, I didn’t either until I made some and now I’m hooked. Farmland reached out to me to create a bacon recipe that even Santa would want, so I decided to create a bacon dessert. Toffee came to mind because of the sweet and salty nature of the flavors. I thought bacon would complement it perfectly and it does! Next time you are searching for a homemade toffee recipe, make this one and throw some bacon on top! You won’t be disappointed.

This bacon toffee recipe is simply amazing! Make some homemade toffee and top with salty bacon for the perfect sweet and salty combination!

Farmland is teaming up with some other Kansas City greats, Mike Sweeny and Heartland to create a campaign called “Bacon For Santa”. It’s more than a tactic to spread the word about how yummy bacon is. For every person that pledges to set out bacon for Santa, Farmland will donate a POUND of protein to Harvesters, up to 25,000 lbs. Harvesters is a local food bank that is amazing. I have personally donated to and worked with Harvesters in the past and it is doing wonders to feed the hungry here in the Kansas City area. You don’t have to be from KC to participate! Farmland is teaming up with other food banks around the country as well. Simply share the hashtag #BaconForSanta on any of your social media channels and Farmland will donate a pound of protein to a food bank. Pretty amazing! Let’s see if we can get to 25,000 before December 24th!

Here’s how I made this yummy toffee recipe!

This bacon toffee recipe is simply amazing! Make some homemade toffee and top with salty bacon for the perfect sweet and salty combination! All you need to do is melt some sugar and butter until a thick liquid is formed. After this simmers for awhile it creates that caramel-y toffee liquid that is just divine. (full detailed recipe is below!)

Refrigerate again until the chocolate is hardened, then break it into pieces.

Here is the detailed recipe:

Bacon Toffee Recipe

(adapted from the Kitchy Kitchen)

4 sticks unsalted butter

2 cups granulated sugar

1/4 cup water

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 1/2 tsp vanilla

2 cups dark chocolate chips

2 cups milk chocolate chips

1 cup chopped toasted almonds

12 strips Farmland bacon, cook and crumbled

Directions:

Melt the butter, sugar, water and salt over low heat, stirring often. When this begins boil, turn the heat up to medium. Stir the mixture frequently and after 15-20 minutes, turn off the heat and add the vanilla, stirring to incorporate. Immediately take the hot toffee and pour into one large greased rimmed cookie sheet or 2 small rimmed cookie sheets. Put the pans into the fridge to let the toffee cool for several hours, or stick it in the freezer for about an hour.

Melt the two types of chocolate chips in the microwave, stirring every 15 seconds. Once the chocolate has melted, take the toffee out of the fridge and quickly coat a section of the toffee in chocolate, then sprinkle with the almonds and bacon. Do another section in the same way. It’s important to work in small sections because if the chocolate hardens to quickly, the bacon and almonds won’t stick. Put the pan back in the fridge until the chocolate is hardened. Then, break it into irregular pieces. Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator.

So, make some yummy bacon toffee and tweet out the hashtag #BaconForSanta and everyone wins! And I’m sure Santa won’t mind if you sneak in a few bites of your sweet bacon goodness.

Modern Photo Blocks

Make some modern photo blocks to display in a nursery or give as a gift!Today I’m sharing an easy and modern way to make photo blocks. I’ve seen these around Pinterest and since I had some black and white photos of my girls, I thought it would be fun to combine them with bright colors for a unique little craft. These would look so cute displayed in a nursery. My girls also love mixing and matching and stacking the blocks.

DIY Garland

Make some DIY garlands using candy! These are so easy and festive, the hardest part will be not eating it all!Recently, at a trip to the dollar store, I was walking down the candy aisle and instantly became inspired by all of the colors and varieties of candy. I had a light bulb moment and had to come up with a way to use all of that colorful candy goodness for a craft! I decided to come up with a DIY garland made out of candy. What better way to make your home festive than using something you can eat??  These garlands would be adorable on the Christmas tree or at a birthday party. And they are fun for kids to help make as well.

Make some DIY garlands using candy! These are so easy and festive, the hardest part will be not eating it all!For these candy garlands, you will need:

  • Embroidery thread
  • Awl
  • Scissors
  • Candy
  • Large Needle (a plastic one will work too)

Make some DIY garlands using candy! These are so easy and festive, the hardest part will be not eating it all!The rest of the types of candy I used can be pierced directly with the needle. I found a huge variety of colors and shapes at the Dollar Tree, which made this project so inexpensive.

Giant DIY Christmas Wreath

Make a giant Christmas wreath out of a hula hoop and eucalyptus for some rustic and modern holiday decor!I recently switched up my Christmas mantel by making a giant DIY Christmas wreath. I’ve made many wreaths over the years, my ombre Christmas wreath being one of my favorites. But I’ve never attempted something as ginormous as this one. I wanted it big yet simple. Can you guess what the base of my DIY holiday wreath is?

For this project, you will need:

  • Hula hoop
  • Twine
  • Letters
  • Spray Paint
  • Eucalyptus

Make a giant Christmas wreath out of a hula hoop and eucalyptus for some rustic and modern holiday decor!Yes, it’s a hula hoop that I spray painted gold. I didn’t really know what kind of wreath I was going to make, I just grabbed a hula hoop at the store and decided to turn it into something giant. As you can see, I just kind of started wrapping twine around it, similar to my dream catcher wreath, but with no pattern.

Make a giant Christmas wreath out of a hula hoop and eucalyptus for some rustic and modern holiday decor!Nest, I tied on branches of eucalyptus that I bought at Trader Joes. Again, I really had no plan in mind, I just started tying stuff on. I will say, the eucalyptus kind of dried out after a few days. It still looks ok, but obviously when using fresh plants, it’s not going to last long term. So you could definitely try this with some faux branches to make it last longer!

Make a giant Christmas wreath out of a hula hoop and eucalyptus for some rustic and modern holiday decor!I just used the same twine to tie on the branches and it all blended in nicely.

Make a giant Christmas wreath out of a hula hoop and eucalyptus for some rustic and modern holiday decor!Lastly, I hung some white letters from white yarn to spell J-O-Y. I did have to hot glue the tops of the letters onto the twine behind it to keep them from falling forward.

Make a giant Christmas wreath out of a hula hoop and eucalyptus for some rustic and modern holiday decor! And it’s done! I love how simple and rustic it is on the mantel. After Christmas, I may take everything off the hula hoop and find something else to do with it…maybe a giant yarn wall hanging for the girls’ room?

Make a giant Christmas wreath out of a hula hoop and eucalyptus for some rustic and modern holiday decor!Have you used hula hoops for decor lately? I’m guessing no, although I’ve found quite a few hula hoop projects on Pinterest of course!

They are absolutely delicious! If you want a twist on the classic banana muffin recipe, you absolutely must try these toasted coconut banana muffins. I randomly came across this recipe and adapted it. These muffins are such a refreshing change from your typical banana bread. Next time I may try swapping out half of the flour for whole wheat and more of the sugar for honey just to kick up the nutritional value a few notches.

For a twist on a classic, make these toasted coconut banana muffins. They are absolutely delicious!

Toasted Coconut Banana Muffins

  • 2 1/2 cups flour
  • 2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 4 ripe bananas
  • 1 cup coconut oil
  • 1  cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 cup shredded coconut

DIY Christmas Ornaments : Copper Leaf

This post is part of a social shopper marketing insight campaign with Pollinate Media Group® and GODIVA, but all my opinions are my own. #pmedia ##GiveGODIVA http://my-disclosur.es/OBsstV

Dress up some plastic ornaments using copper leaf and fill them with chocolates! Such a simple yet fancy thing to give someone at Christmas!

Every year I end up making a few DIY Christmas ornaments for one reason or another. This year is no different, but these ornaments are just good enough to eat…literally! I’m sure everyone has a few people on their list that you aren’t sure what to buy and you don’t need to get anything expensive and you just need some gift giving ideas. Just a simple, small gesture will do. Well, after discovering GODIVA’s new gift boxes at Walmart, I decided to turn them into something that is pretty enough to hang on a tree but yummy enough to eat! I made some ornaments using copper leaf and filled them with a few amazing chocolates. After the chocolates are eaten, you are still left with a beautiful ornament. Win-Win!!

Dress up some plastic ornaments using copper leaf and fill them with chocolates! Such a simple yet fancy thing to give someone at Christmas! Here’s what you will need:

  • GODIVA 9 piece gift box (I chose the assorted chocolate caramels)
  • Copper Leaf
  • Adhesive (I used Mod Podge)
  • Clear plastic ornament (the kind that is in 2 pieces and snaps together)

Dress up some plastic ornaments using copper leaf and fill them with chocolates! Such a simple yet fancy thing to give someone at Christmas!First you are going to apply the adhesive to the top part of your ornament. It doesn’t have to be perfect, that’s the beauty of copper leaf. It’s best when imperfect!

Dress up some plastic ornaments using copper leaf and fill them with chocolates! Such a simple yet fancy thing to give someone at Christmas!Once it’s slightly dry but still tacky, adhere the copper leaf gently. Let this dry for a few hours.

Dress up some plastic ornaments using copper leaf and fill them with chocolates! Such a simple yet fancy thing to give someone at Christmas!Next, open up the ornament and slip in 2-3 GODIVA chocolates.

Dress up some plastic ornaments using copper leaf and fill them with chocolates! Such a simple yet fancy thing to give someone at Christmas!Add string to the tops and you are finished! These would look beautiful tied onto a gift as an extra little bonus.

Dress up some plastic ornaments using copper leaf and fill them with chocolates! Such a simple yet fancy thing to give someone at Christmas! The chocolates look so cute hiding inside, but I’m sure they won’t last long! The DIY Christmas ornaments can be filled with something else after the chocolates are gone or just left as is!

Visit Walmart this holiday season for GODIVA Chocolate Gift Boxes. Available in three 9PC varieties and also a 15PC Dark All-of-a-Kind. (while supplies last) (You are definitely going to want to add these to your holiday shopping list!)

Homemade Ice Cream Sandwich Recipe

This shop has been compensated by Collective Bias, Inc. and its advertiser. All opinions are mine alone. #NestleHolidayBaking #CollectiveBias

These apple cinnamon ice cream sandwiches only require 3 INGREDIENTS! They are SO amazing for fall! When I think of Thanksgiving, I don’t immediately think of ice cream sandwiches. I’m assuming that I’m probably not the only one. In fact, I know that I’ve never had an ice cream sandwich on Thanksgiving. That might change this year because I came up with the most amazing fall inspired ice cream sandwich flavor.  Since a lot of kids might not be a huge fan of the  traditional Thanksgiving desserts, why not serve some of these apple cinnamon ice cream sandwiches? They are bursting with fall flavor but are a unique spin on those traditional Thanksgiving desserts. And the best part? These sandwiches are 3 INGREDIENTS. Yes, you read that right! Tell me any other homemade dessert that only consists of 3 ingredients, probably not many. Ready to see how to make them??

These apple cinnamon ice cream sandwiches only require 3 INGREDIENTS! They are SO amazing for fall!

First, I headed to Walmart to pick up some NESTLÉ® TOLL HOUSE® Harvest Apple Refrigerated Cookie Dough. This is the reason why these sandwiches are only 3 ingredients!

Dollar Store Crafts: DIY Storage Containers

I just recently made over an unfinished basement laundry room for less than $100. Dollar store crafts like these DIY storage bins helped me save a ton!You know how I love dollar store crafts that don’t look like they are from the dollar store. I whipped up these storage containers for my laundry room basement makeover and I love how they turned out! It really took no effort at all, just sticking things on some Dollar Tree containers and calling it good. But when I updated my basement laundry room for under $100, having some inexpensive storage option that still looked decent was a must!

I just recently made over an unfinished basement laundry room for less than $100. Dollar store crafts like these DIY storage bins helped me save a ton!I often talk of my obsession with Dollar Tree. I practically squealed when I saw these white storage containers a few months ago. The white ones are very hard to come by, so if you see them, grab them! The key to making these dollar store containers work for you is to get all the same color. I did this with my Dollar Store closet makeover. But white makes the classiest difference in my book! If you can’t find these at Dollar Tree, I did see some large white containers very similar to these in the Target dollar spot for $3. Still a good deal for what you are getting!

How My Blogging Income Tripled Overnight

*This post contains affiliate links. If you click on the link and make a purchase, I will make a small commission.*

Learn the 3 steps one blogger took to TRIPLE her blogging income overnight!I’m guessing there are some of you out there that have a blog or would like to start one. Although I’ve been blogging for quite a while, I have not been serious about it as an actual source of income until fairly recently. Having a part time job and 3 small children consumed my life and blogging was just a hobby. But since I have quit my part-time office job, my blog as well as some other paid contributor and magazine positions have become my part-time job. I have learned a lot about how to make an income online and I still have tons more to learn. But recently I have taken some steps that caused my blog to triple it’s income overnight! I am kicking myself for not taking these steps years ago.  If you’ve been blogging for a long time or are just starting out, I hope this info on how to earn money from blogging will be helpful to you!

This summer, I made some big changes to my blog both noticeable and behind the scenes. All of these changes happened simultaneously which resulted in my income changing overnight. I had hesitated for years to make these changes because they cost money. Being the super frugal person that I am, I always find any way possible to just do something myself instead of paying money for a service. So, my DIY  blog was also literally a DIY blog. I designed it and set it up on Blogger. I spent hours learning HTML hacks to make the blog look a certain way. I set up the ads myself and tried to sell ads to private small businesses. Well, because of this my blog income suffered. While other blogs were switching to WordPress and hiring out to get professional designs, I was stubbornly trying to do it all myself to save money…for years. Because of this, I was earning a fraction of what I had the potential to earn.

Learn the 3 steps one blogger took to TRIPLE her blogging income overnight!

Here are the steps I took to triple my blogging income overnight:

  1. Switch from Blogger to WordPress. I’m not going to lie, this task is rather daunting. There are tutorials out there on how to make the switch yourself, but I was too afraid to conquer that. I had nightmares of losing every blog post I had ever written. So, I broke down and paid RFE Hosting, who came highly recommended to me, to make the big switch. I still had to do some things in preparation that were totally out of my Blogger.com comfort zone. But it was well worth it. Here is my advice to someone who is starting out as a blogger: START OUT ON WORDPRESS! It’s tempting to go with blogger.com because it’s free. If you are serious about blogging, don’t do it. It’s an investment upfront, but starting out on WordPress will be totally worth it. Switching from Blogger to WordPress is not fun. But it’s doable. If you are on blogger.com, make the switch. Check out RFE Hosting. They are reasonably priced and have amazing customer service. About a month ago, I messed with some HTML on my blog and temporarily lost every blog post. Needless to say, I was freaked out. I got online and chatted with someone at RFE Hosting and they talked me through how to fix the problem in 30 seconds!
  2. Invest in a Mobile Friendly Design. As I was preparing to make the big switch to WordPress, I started researching blog designs. I knew I wanted one that was mobile friendly. Since my blogger design was all done by me, it was not mobile friendly because I had no idea what I was doing. I didn’t realize how drastically this affected my income earnings. I found a company called Pretty Darn Cute whose designs were basic enough to customize yourself but they were also very mobile friendly. Again, it was an investment, but I purchased a design and then customized it myself. It was the best of both worlds of relying on someone else’s expertise to make the backbone of my blog design solid but then I could go in and DIY the rest of it to look how I wanted. I would highly recommend Pretty Darn Cute’s customer service as well.
  3. Consider Switching Ad Networks. As I was working on all of this, I was also shopping for a new ad network. I had been with Blogher.com for years. You have to apply and be accepted into that network and then you are locked into a contract. Since I had been accepted and in a contract, I thought they must be the best. Blogher is great for some people, but they just were a company that was no longer a fit for me. I finally decided to switch to The Blogger Network. After waiting for my contract with Blogher.com to end, I switched all my ads over to TBN. I was shocked that although my pageviews had not changed, I instantly started to double or triple my ad income with TBN! They are a very kind and reputable company and so far I have nothing but good things to say about them.

So how did these 3 steps result in my income tripling overnight? Well they all happened simultaneously and had different effects. Being on WordPress improved my site’s SEO and made me more searchable by Google. Switching to a mobile friendly design did wonders for my Google Ads. (I have a few ads on my site through Google and the rest are through The Blogger Network). Now all those ads show up on mobile devices, so my Google Ad earnings instantly started tripling. And my earnings from The Blogger Network versus Blogher also were tripled instantly due to me being mobile friendly and the network just being a better fit. So, all that to say, if you want to earn more income from your blog, and you haven’t taken any of these steps, I would highly recommend it. I have learned that being persistent and intentional really pays off with blogging. My pageviews are not amazing, but I really am earning a part-time income working from home which is a dream come true.

I will be sharing more blogging tips in the future because these posts seem to be fairly popular.
