Father’s Day is just around the corner. It always sneaks up on me. It’s much harder to come up with DIY projects for men. They probably aren’t as satisfied with a mod podged potted succulent as most ladies out there (although some probably are!). I came up with this little shirt design idea for my husband for Christmas and decided to break it out again for Father’s Day. It’s something your kids can do but also something that Grandpa or Dad won’t just throw away after a few days. Child Drawn Shirt Designs!
Now the shirts we made are sports themed, but you could do this with anything your child draws or writes. The process is the same.
Step 1: Have your child write or draw out their design. This may take guidance to get them to draw it the appropriate size. You could always scan and enlarge their drawing if necessary.
Step 2: Outline the image (just to make it easier on yourself later) and tape the paper to a piece of freezer paper, shiny side DOWN.
Step 3: Carefully cut out the image with a craft knife.
Step 4: Remove the top paper and iron the freezer paper directly onto the shirt. (The shiny side of the freezer paper should be touching the shirt).
Step 5: Take some fabric paint and a sponge brush and gently paint inside your stencil.
Step 5: Once the paint is dry (I use a hair dryer for about 2 minutes), remove the freezer paper.
Done! These shirts are so cute.
My husband has been stopped multiple times and asked where he got his Chiefs shirt. People can’t believe it when he says his 5 year old daughter made it! The freezer paper process always ends up looking so great.
Now you have no excuses in coming up with a creative Father’s day gift!
