Indoor Activities Day 5: Sequence Cards

I'm on Day 5 of my 31 Days of Indoor Activities project.  This one is so simple and quick to do.  I actually came up with this as part of Lula's preschool curriculum (which I will talk about soon!).  We did some sequence cards with letters and numbers.

I had some colored cardstock and wrote the alphabet on them.  We are working our way up doing the entire alphabet, but for now just started with a few letters.  I mixed up all the cards and had her put them in order

She really loved it and after doing it two or three times, could do it perfectly! It really helped her in going from left to right, which she has trouble with.

I flipped the cards over and wrote numbers on the other side and we did the same exercise with numbers. We just started with 1-5 and will work our way up!

We practiced counting backwards from 5 which she also has trouble with. (and yes, she did it incorrectly in the picture below...)

It's simple, but a free and fun activity for a preschooler or early elementary age child. You could do it with all different things...sight words, pictures, reading comprehension (ordering from beginning, middle, end etc...)

I know it's a common learning technique in elementary school, but I wouldn't have thought to do it with my preschooler!
